Suggestion:  
This is to move our current base map from titan base to this new version of Anaxes. 


I have spent the past 2 weeks searching the STEAM workshop for every base map we could possibly use and after a review process with both myself and Square we decided this and the base Anaxes map (by Jimbo) are our two best options for now. 


The new version of Anaxes is based off Jimbo's map. It has a copy of the base (except for spawn room) with the added features on the exterior. One of the main features of the map is that there is another layer of the map just as large as the original (as can be seen in the map architecture screenshot). The biggest cons are that there is NO Jedi Temple, or bounty hunter village.


For Jedi this can be mitigated by giving them high command bunks and if needed the bar area. This will allow them to have the space they need while also bringing them closer with the clones / RP in general. As for bounty hunters it will be up to them to find an optimal solution I propose setting up camps on both layers similar to how we have now on titan base.

Below I will enumerate the pros and cons I see
 

Pros:

  • Increased map size
  • Variability in encounter / main server events
  • Skybox / space section for pilots
  • Seemingly optimized
  • Integration of Jedi and Clones allowing for closer roleplay between the two forces. 
  • 3 layers allowing for a lot more RP / potential (helps prevent map fatigue) 
  • Enough different to hold interest but enough similar to not have to teach everyone the map layout again. 
  • Thumbs up from some higher ups
  • Bug fixes

Cons:

  •  Glitch section of the map (falling out of the map) this can be covered by perma props
  • Slightly less FPS performance than titan base
  • No Jedi Temple (for performance reasons)
  • No Bounty hunter village (fir performance reasons)
  • Second layer has lighting from the first layer making it pretty dark (maybe we could add lighting for this in hammer with map maker permission of course)
  • Not brand new map, ( I went through every GMOD map with almost no luck for new maps that would work for us)

@Daytona211 so how would you suggest we get something set up for the Bounty Hunters and jedi? Because im sure Jedi would need their own place specifically for a council chambers, holocron vault etc. Same with Bounty Hunters, if they were to build their own and perma prop it'd be way too many props so how would you suggest we over come this issue

Jedi would be given the High Command bunks and the side bar / old SOBDE HQ if needed. 

 The council could use either the bar / old SOBDE HQ as their chambers and the jedi bunks would be the HC offices as shown in my screenshots as the size of a jedi bunk is similar in size. Holocron vault is small enough to be made with props if needed but to be frank I see it as a nonessential part of the RP from the jedi masters I talked to and is mostly used for encounters. But I could be wrong on that front. I would propose just putting down holobooks stacks.


Bounty hunters would have small outposts similar to how we have it now. We could even give them one of the prebuilt outposts if we see it as appropriate. I envisioned building an outpost around the tower on the second layer and one where the old village was on the first layer but that will be up to the current marshal commander / bounty hunter lead as they have the power to make those calls not GMD.
 

In regards to no temple. Jedi didn't always have a temple when deployed so it should be even easier to get into character I would think.

Ima +1 this. Alot of comprimising for what i'd say to be quite large portions of essential places, but overall it would meet standards. Minor bugs here and there like decals on runway, map is WAY too dark in areas for some reason but overall i'd agree to it.

+1 Looking around the map things look good. Room for pilots to actually do their thing, new areas to explore, patrol, and do events with, an actual place for space dogfights. There are some small issues like Naffen said but it looks like an all around nice map.

This map seems like it's what lots of people liked from Endor (spacious with outposts and stuff) while being on Anaxes (which gives more optimization and etc)

+1 , But if the Jedi is to get a fair exchange for losing their temple. It only seems right for them to get Half of High Command Bunks and the 2 Rooms on the middle floor.

That's a high command decision. I would be fine with giving you guys all of the high command bunks and the old SOBDE HQ as I said in my post

Honestly, the bounty hunter HQ we have now sucks. All of the outposts on this map look bigger. 

 

+1 to this as long as BH can have an outpost as their HQ. 

 

Outpost 3 would be perfect for a bounty hunter base imo.

- There's a red light that is constantly on your screen throughout the ENTIRE map (unless your in the base) and is really annoying.

- Frames were pretty bad and didn't even have anything spawned in at all. (Average: 40 fps)

- Inside the base is really dark and especially the BCC / Third Floor.

If we were going to switch to Annaxes make tit the original, that map is way better than this one.

I beg to differ, myself and banana went on it and done extensive testing, with vehicles and npcs placed down and still got 60 fps with 2 LAATs an ATTE and over 40 droids placed down and I dont have the greatest PC. There is well enough airspace in the space place for a dog fight.

I want to talk some parts of the map after flying around a bit. This is just me spitballing somethings after flying around for a bit.

No place for Jedi

  • 16 bunks and 12 high command offices, we can either split up masters and knights/padawan's, or give them a whole section together.
  • The cave system still exists, which is excellent for trials/tests/crystal spawns.
  • There are plenty of side rooms we could use as a library, if we do decide to split masters and knights/padawan's we can put the library in one of those. Spreading out the order and integrating them more into the base.

No place for BH's

  • The new section of the map has a nice little base that might be excellent for bounty hunters. Walled area that they could hold and defended, giving more PvP potential.
  • Our current bounty hunter base is all prop based, perhaps we could copy a similar idea here somewhere, we have plenty of open areas.

The Skybox

  • Honestly i was able to fly around without having to worry about walls. I loved it. This map will revitalize the ACE and Pilot programs. Without question.
  • On a negative, flying up gets you into the weird space skybox which is disorienting and hard to realize where i am. This might be fixed with time and practice however.

Map as a whole

  • Positive: Lighting can apparently be fixed, much needed
  • Negative: That weird light that you see when you're not even in the room. IDK if anything can be done about that.
  • Positive: The outposts are a lot more put together then our current system

I might add more as i think longer.

Looks pretty cool but I still despise the actual size of the base for Anaxes. Too big and empty. Endor had a good size where you almost always ran into other people but on Anaxes it always seemed more dead than usual.

+1 I concur, it looks great seems like a lot of good additions. Abeloth is pleased, along with anaxes giving bounty hunters more to do and maybe just maaayyybbeee the CIS might show up ;)

I flew around in a single player game on it, and It really made me want to go back on anaxes even though I have never been on anaxes with synergy. The Pilot program and Ace would be revived, and people would finally have a better reason to pick JT.

I've spent a bit of time doing some looking around, some testing, and I've come to a general conclusion about my opinions on this map.

Is it better than Titan Base? YES.
Is it better than the original Anaxes? Well, not really.

From the perspective of the Chief Flight Officer- this map seems too good to be true. Unfortunately, it is. The Space above the planet has one entry and exit point, meaning that when you fly above a certain height it will place you in the center of the space region and you will be facing 0 degrees north. When you fly too high in the space region, it sends you down to this point as well. When you want to leave the space region, you fly down and are teleported to a set location right outside of the base, facing 0 degrees north. If the teleportation isn't annoying enough when trying to perform offensive / defensive maneuvers around the main base, the fact that you enter and leave the region facing north is worse- as the LFS ships go haywire adjusting to the new mouse direction. The skybox on the actual planet is also significantly lower than on the original Anaxes, making ground support and flying within view of the ground much more of a challenge.

From the perspective of the average trooper, I still like the base. It hasn't changed much. But the surface of the planet overall? Well, in my opinion the outposts on the original map were better. They seemed less out of place, less a combination of a bunch of random assets. I believe the two outposts, the tower, and the village made for much better map decor than the options presented in this map. The Jedi & Bounty Hunters just seem to be giving up quite a bit for not much payoff. I wouldn't really say the Jedi and the Clones having to spawn in the same massive base increases roleplay between them in any significant way.

When Compared to Original RP_Anaxes:

PROS:

  • Increased Map Size
  • Slightly Different Map Layout

CONS:

  • Glitched Lighting
  • Buggy / Poorly Built Space / Skybox Feature
  • No Jedi Temple
  • No Bounty Hunter Village
  • Lower Quality Outposts
  • Expanded Area is Barren
  • Inferior Optimization (In my experience during testing)

 

Ultimately, I feel Original RP_Anaxes is a better choice for our next map. Have we been there before? Yeah, we have. But it beats Titan Base and it beats this revised version of Anaxes. Perhaps this map could be added to the event server pool as the barren wasteland below the map would probably be a cool place for deployments. 

-1 (I would prefer this map over Titan Base but I would much rather prefer the normal Anaxes already in pending)

After Foxey’s response and viewing the map myself it is pretty much normal anaxes but the outposts are on steroids, but I’m going to decide on a -1

So I went on and tested a lot of shit. 
Firstly the the stuff that could be worked around:
- The parts where you can fall out of the map or glitch, you can fill with perma props like the large rock stacks etc. 
- The BH HQ can be one of the outposts POTENTIALLY maybe the one on top of the mountain or the one NE of slate, but that could be worked around.
- Jedi Temple POTENTIALLY could be like on Venator Extensive where we have 5th Floor as the temple so maybe there could be areas in the base for that. BUT lacks immersion and is a large compromise for a temple etc. 
- The village area which is now empty could be built on or put some sort of replacement there. But is a big loss IMO.

Questionable shit:
- I don't like the space system. I tested multiple ships and speeds and while the space is good, the teleporting back into Anaxes requires you to spin and manoeuvre quite awkwardly to avoid contact with the rocks and floor. If you go VERY slow you have less of a chance. (The open space is great, but something needs to work around the TP) 
BUT there is a huge part of the map underneath anaxes which is completely open, spacious and quite nice. Just haven't figured out how to get there without noclip. THIS could be used for the flight trainings or what not which can be seen under this I think.

It is fully explorable with a barrier and sky box and I think it will be a good alternative for the space flying. If i am wrong or its not possible to have this in the server please let me know. 

Good shit:
- Base is nice
- Outposts are decent 
- Slate and Granite have been extended which is nice
- Nice ambient noise 
- Map has some new parts or extended parts of the map like the river. 

Overall
So, is it better than Titan? Completely. But overall the mix of pros and cons and workarounds seems a bit much considering the last Anaxes base
- No Jedi Temple, and the loss of some things I am really not sure. 
Personally I would like a new map and this post was purely to view the questionable and good parts of the map. As long as Jedi don't mind the compromise and some stuff can be worked around I'm gonna say +1 solely based on because its a new map, I'm sick of Titan, and we might be able to work some shit out.

+1 agree with the map. I also did some testing, and looking around and I actually think it looks really good. There might be a few issues here and there, but tbh the maps out right now other than this one, and a few others, are actual shit. I went through like 15 maps and all of them were shit, shit, shit, and even more shit. The only best choice, besides this one, would be to get a custom map, or one of the other better maps on the workshop, but even then they aren’t as good as this one.

 

All in All I think day got good with this map, and I honestly believe it would make a good fit for us.
