    Changes to SOBDE

+1 Maybe replace them with Null or something idk.
  2. Hi. I haven't really played the server in over a year. I resigned my positions in spring 2021, graduated, went off to college, started working all the fucking time and basically got on with life. So I speak now as someone who played the server heavily from 2019-2021 and now stands as someone who basically just comes back to check out updates. It's hard to really pinpoint any specific thing about the server. A lot of people that I interact with will chalk it up to oh, it's just gotten old. That could certainly be it- but it's got to be more than that. Most of my friends left the server multiple times and were drawn back in. Whether they were drawn back in by one of us begging them to come back or by a new and exciting feature that they wanted to experiment with- they came back. Eventually... they just stopped coming back. And so did I. I did the staff thing, I grinded my way up to HA while also serving as a BCMD playing the server for probably 60+ hours a week. I was Game Master Chief, I was a Trainer Officer, I was in high staff for half a year. It's a grind. It's so much fun the first time- especially if you're the type of person who loves pouring themselves into the work and having that responsibility. You've got ideas, you want to change the world for the better- but most times you can't. It's like Mavelle said above, there's so much you can't do that it's hard to stick with that lifestyle forever. Because of this, there's not a whole lot of replayability there. Maybe after a long break people come back to staff and work their way up to VA or HA, but let's be honest- people only give it 110% once. And they can only keep that up for so long. On the server side of things, I've been a BCMD. I've been Admiral. I've been in SOBDE, I've been a Jedi main. I've been a BH main. They all offer their own unique experiences. Gosh, I remember when I was just a humble 104th MEDX and myself and my MEDL would run around drugging fellow troopers and replacing their legs. Roleplay over Ruleplay. When I was a bounty hunter myself and my good friend worked closely with the Admiral Yularen at the time, acting as intelligence agents and trying to take pro-republic contracts and do good work. We had all-access passes to BCC in those days... and our own office. When I got tired of the clone and naval life I tried Jedi, ended up joining SOBDE- that was a blast... Bardan Jusik for something like 2/3 of a year, just kicking back and playing the game. No ranking up, helping with tryouts being the only responsibility, roleplay and fun all the time... Even when I was GMO or GMM and working on the largest, longest events I'd ever host- spending hours building and then hours more planning and then hours more actually hosting the event, I'd have a blast. An entire Saturday gone- no regrets. The issue now is that I'll sit here and remember fondly the many hours I played on the server. I'll remember those experiences and it'll make me thirst for more. And then I reconnect... SOBDE isn't what it used to be. Null is gone. Several battalions are gone from the server. Regiments have been rearranged. The trainings are different. The people are different. The community is different. I'll see people I used to know and I'll say hey, how's it going? And I'll hear it's just not what it used to be. And I think that's the issue... A lot of us long for the days of roleplay everywhere, of being able to hop on the server and experience something memorable on a whim. We spent a lot of time bhopping back in the day... but it's just different now, isn't it? I don't want to place blame on server leadership or on specific people in the community because honestly, it's probably nobody's fault. Whether decisions were better or worse in the long run I don't believe anyone was doing anything other than what they thought was right for the server. I almost wonder if this is just always destined to happen in gaming communities: the steady decline and longing for the old days. When Anaxes first dropped and the hype dried up we'd long for the simplicity of Endor. Other communities I've been a part of both on and off Garry's Mod follow a similar course. And it's a shame, cause every time I come back the models look sexier, the guns are cooler, and the map is nicer. The features just keep getting better and better... but the community feels like it's drying up. Probably doesn't help that people like me can't afford to play 60+ hours a week anymore. I guess that's what happens when the playerbase all become adults. Bit of a ramble, but this post was sent to me and triggered some thoughts I figured I'd share.
  3. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Matt you're so funny, ily
  4. I tried to come back, but uh... no free time. If Null comes back I'll literally quit my job to be at the tryouts though... Love y'all
  5. Yeah I was pretty cool, wasn't I? +1 lol
  6. I've always looked at roll bonuses as a logical roleplay representation of certain individuals being more skilled at certain things. It makes perfect sense for a trained medic to be 5 or 10% more proficient in their medical actions than an amateur. It makes sense for medical officers or leads to be even more proficient than that. I look at roll bonuses as people specializing in a certain type of roleplay and therefore being more likely to succeed. I'd love to see them return, and if they did return I think they should be like the old days. Give officers their bonus for being officers, give specializations their tiered bonuses based on rank, etc.
  7. 8/10 I had a lot of fun! The building was very nice and overall I'm very glad I was able to come back from my LOA and do something so fun. The story could have been a little more complex and I wouldn't have been opposed to Naval having a bit more to do on the operations end of things (the cleaning was cool for the NCOs, the mess hall was cool for the officers, but maybe next time we can run ATC for a bit or do more procedural stuff) but it unfolded well and I am looking forward to part two. As always Shockpoint I love your voice acting.
  8. Because we're all trying to avoid you :)
  9. o7, you were one of the people who could be counted on to speak their mind and even though that can be REALLY ANNOYING sometimes it's still a rare quality. Good luck out there Mitchell
  10. RP Name: Naval Ensign Foxey | 2ndAC Sergeant Foxey Steam ID: STEAM_0:0:101435744 VIP (Y/N): Y Age: 18 Timezone: EST What was your previous staff rank?: Senior Administrator Are you currently staff on a different server?: No Why did you leave the staff team?: Left the server to take a break and focus on IRL stuff. Why do you want to rejoin the staff team? (3 sentence minimum): Because now I'm back, and I've always been in staff while I've been around. I enjoy helping out the server and I've got some fun stuff I'd like to do as a GM this time around. How do you feel your previous time as a staff member went? (3 sentence minimum): It went well, I remained at SA for the entirety of my return but I was able to do some amazing events as a Game Master and I achieved Game Master Manager under Shockpoint. Do you understand by re-applying to get your previous rank back that you will be tested on your knowledge of the server rules and practices?: Yes
  11. I used to just have !spectate bound to a key and you can just toggle it on and off when you need to in order to see how much health your event jobs or players have and where they are. Also sometimes, for larger things, I'd employ a game helper to do that for me (especially when deploying / involving lots of cloakers). Ultimately I don't think this is at all necessary, but if it'll help make events smoother for some GMs then sure, +1.
  12. I remember Anaxes the first time around when it had just released, and even at 128/128 Anaxes always felt so empty compared to the Venators & other bases we were hopping between.
  13. I like small bases, actually. They're much better than large ones cause they force that tight-knit interaction and community and all that. I just didn't like the entire map surrounding the base. It was super un-fun as a Game Master, and super un-fun as a player too. Anaxes is an amazing map, I'd just rather the base be a bit more compact. I wouldn't want to go back to Titan Base though.

    Fortnite Emotes

You posted this exact suggestion in February didn't you? It got denied 22-34. Round two, -1.
  15. Hi. I just wanted to say that when I was setting up the ATC Program about a year ago as both Chief Flight Officer & ACE Lead myself and the Admiral of the Navy at the time were more than willing to allow Jedi to be trained for LAATs and the only reason that the ARC-170 & V-19 remained "Clone-Exclusive" was due to a general disinterest on behalf of Jedi Leadership to share the ETA-2 in return (I had some ideas for an Elite-Clone-Pilots program that would utilize the Eta-2 since it was the best vehicle by far at the time). It was generally agreed upon at the time that there were Clone Ships and Jedi Ships with the exception of the LAAT, but that was more of a Jedi-driven mindset as opposed to a Naval or High Command mindset. I don't believe you'd have many issues getting Jedi the right to fly the ARC-170 or V-19 or whatever if they wish, so long as Naval is included in the process so trainings can be updated and moderated accordingly. I'd argue that from a gameplay perspective the reason that Jedi are discouraged from flying compared to Clone Pilots is that a single Jedi on the ground acting as a support unit using Force Heal & deflecting blaster bolts can make a big difference in a fight and that's really what most Jedi should be focusing on, but that's just me.
  16. When I first started doing Jedi stuff you were a truly inspirational guy to serve under. When you were Director, playing on the server was a load of fun. You took a break and came back as I left, which was a shame- but I'm glad you're back and I think you'd make an amazing Palpatine. Good luck Conrad, +1.
  17. You'll be missed dearly. You were the best Ordo. I love you. o7

    New World?

I shall be gaming it up in the New World, mayhaps I shall join you @TheCyan
  19. If you have a joint bank account with your mom and you're both capable of depositing and withdrawing money then yeah, she can probably totally do that and it's completely legal. When I turned 18 my parents had me open my own bank account that they don't even have access to, that's what I'd recommend doing for yourself as well. If your mom wants to give you money she can write you a check.
  20. My favorite thing about Star Wars is the amount of fan-made art that numerous scenes and characters have inspired over the years. There are some amazing visuals in the trilogies, but seeing individual frames passionately recreated by artists is just amazing. For example, one of my favorite scenes out of all of Star Wars is the Battle of the Heroes, both for the visuals, the meaning behind the scene, and the KICKASS soundtrack. And this little piece of art is an amazing conglomeration of all the pure awesomeness of that. But aside from that, tell me this clip isn't the best fucking Star Wars content you've ever seen in your life... Like seriously, the only thing that comes close to topping this are some Mandalorian scenes and that's just because I'm a massive null nerd.
  21. Throughout Brace's time as Admiral he repeatedly demonstrated to me that he was an excellent leader who was wholly capable of pushing for reform and then ensuring that those reforms last and maintain their positive effect. If there was one man that I had to choose on the server to repair anything that is in need of help, it'd be Brace. I have no doubt he will be an exceptional Commander Fox, and I believe the server would be hard-pressed to find a candidate capable of standing neck and neck with Brace. +1 @Brace CG is drowning! They need help! Get in there, lifeguard.
  22. I'm late, but whatever You were a real one back when you were Rex and I was Wolffe, like you were just fun to RP with. But when you came back to the server and became Zey, I joined SOBDE. Cause you were chill, and I figured I could work under you. My amazing experience as Bardan is all thanks to you. Good luck with college and life, Stormzy. o7
