In Memoriam board

Name: Mason / Boil

RP Rank: WO

Suggestion: Having a public In Memoriam board for all those who have passed

Implementation: I think a board or something in MHB maybe under hangar controls on the wall publicly for all the people who have passed and in memories. I know there is memorials in bunks and stuff, just thought it'd be nice to have a public memory board or something.

+1 , Lets people feel they are remembered for what they did and what they meant to the community. A new player may become curious and want to learn about those names - a good way to become part of the community.

EVERYONE PLEASE NOTE: This is not to replace the private memorials in bunks. Those will of course stay.

Are we talking about people that has left the server, people character that was perma killed, or what exact names will go on this board?

We are talking about those from the server who have passed away in real life.

I think it is in horrible taste to try to "honor" peoples IRL death with a 3d2d textscreen on a wall on GarrysMod

-1 Yeah to be quite honest this ain't it.  I personally think naming the Bases & having writings in TS channels is fine.  I don't think this is needed for the server.

Yeah, i just thought it'd be nice for it to be more visible to people outside the battalions due to them being in bunks, I wasn't trying to honor anyone's death this way, i just thought it would be nice for more people to see, but i respect your replies nonetheless.

And text in a teamspeak channel is anymore respectful. What do you want us to do to honour their lives?

Slate's memorial is a beautiful tribute to who He was and it's about 3 props and a text screen. I just really don't see how you can even consider a memorial text screen "horrible", would you rather we spell it out in gmod props because that's the only other way really.

Putting the names of those we've lost in a public place is a good way to allow people to reflect and respect the loved ones and members of the community we lost.

At least that's how I see it.

Also this is a sensitive subject so to call making a memorial "horrible taste" is a tad disrespectful. Mason is trying to suggest a way for everyone to be able to remember and respect those we've lost and how do you respond: "*funny gif* how dare you be so stupid to consider this a sensible way to "honour" these IRL DEATHS. God youre an idiot for making a suggestion on how to honour those we've lost."

I'm glad you offered an alternative- oh

If I passed away and a Garrys mod funeral is held for me, or a text screen is placed with "In memory of Sock Monkey" I would roll over in my grave
horrible taste is a perfect word to use, It acknowledges that the people are trying to do something good, but in poor fashion.

Imma have to go with a -1 sorry

I already know it comes off like I'm a horrible person when I disagree with things like this but it just feels weird and uncomfortable when subjects like this are brought up and (I mean no offense when I say this) when we had the memorial for Slate it started to turn into more with an Outpost in his honor and then when we moved to a venator for a bit people tried to name it after him. We can't expect to honor everyone who's passed without those who were closest to them wanting more in their honor. I dunno I might be wording all this badly or something and again, I don't mean to come off as an insensitive dickhead but I just don't like the feel of these things.

Thinking through it again, probably right.

Also, best feedback on this forum post so far IMO. Well said.

I get where you're coming from. You don't come across that way don't worry. Appreciate the feedback.
I do agree with you about naming loads of stuff, i personally was not close to the people that had passed away, it was just people were talking about it on the server and i thought i would just suggest a more public way or a way more people can see it.

Also to anyone thinking, i never intended to offend or disrespect anyone who has passed away, or those who were close to these people.

I’m going to have to agree here. God bless all who we have lost but I believe the way that they are honored now suffices.

I think Marvel stated it pretty well.

I think if we made a memorial board it might lead to controversy, and overall be a bad idea. I think the best way to remember those who've passed is to do it how YOU see fit. For example, 104th have dedicated a part of one of their channels to slate, and I think thats a brilliant idea. People shouldn't be just put somewhere in the server, but remember like how people usually do IRL. I think what you are trying to do is an amazing thing, but honestly shouldn't be put on the server.  Just remember them how you would remember a friend if they passed. Just keep them in your prayers, and have something to remember them by out of the game, because if we were to start putting names on the board and such. So much controversy, and ridiculous things would happen. For example, when the slate RIP session in medbay was put on reddit. Horrible people came online to the server just to bash on him, and make jokes about his passing. Imagine if people found out we had a board with everyones name on it somewhere. Just imagine the horrible things that could come from it

-1 For me. Just think of a way to remember the ones who passed in your own way. Sorry if anything I said came off offensive. I just don't think it's really necessary for something like that to be put somewhere on the server

-1 I dont think people want to be constantly reminded of that persons passing, if you want to respect them in a way, go do something on your own or with other people because some people will either A. Not wanted to be reminded of the harsh reality that one day all of us will cease to exist and that day already came for those on the walls, or B. Someone was close to that person and is mourning over them still even if you don’t know it

Honestly I don't feel like if people passed away they would want to be put on a wall on a gmod server. It's quite tasteless because all this inspires is minges to make fun of it. Like with what happened when Slate passed away and people would name themselves slates ghost and be dicks about it.. its just inviting minges to have a new target.

just buy them flowers or something on behalf of the server. That seems like a nicer thing to do then putting them on a gmod wall

Honestly beyond all this its just kinda weird. I get why you want to, but i know i will feel uncomfortable walking past this wall every day. On top of that who decides who gets added. Is it people we know died. What if someone commits suicide and we add them to the wall. Then after this someone think they'll fake kill them self when they leave the community so they're memorialized like that as well. Low key i see a ton of issues happening here and I don't want to have staff members have to be the ones to go through the emotional toll that might come with this position.

If people want to do a bunk thing or put it in their TS then fine but I don't want to see a textscreen with a bunch of people's names who have died.

This sounds wrong but this idea is super cringy. If I died I would be happy if some people kept me in their thoughts but I would probably die a second time from embarrassment if this was done to me if a video game.

-1 Personally I find it a bit distasteful as someone who is good friends with someone who did pass I know they wouldn't really want to paraded around as a novel thing almost.

I mean I hated the reddit post about the memorial as it felt like showing off and poor attempt for some attention.

I felt the outpost was pushing it even in my personal view but that was then I just hate the idea of the brownie points for doing it or when people who either hardly know or didn't know the person and try to do things in their name.

Sure it might be nice for people to have memorials but as people come and go the significance is lost as less and less people really know the meaning or know the person and the care and respect is lost as it is just another thing

I love the thought. I really do. I have to -1 tho. For reasons stated above. you can do the slate memorial thing we have.

All 104th, jedi and clone salute or bow to it before leaving and when coming in. In honor of the guy that did his best to make 104th a good spot when he was still with us, I remember him and it's a nice touch. Hell, one of my new 104th guys Sarius never met him, I told him the stories about it and he too salutes it.
