Hi!!!!! I am back for a couple weeks to run a couple events and make some builds for the GMs that are GMing right now. 

DO PEOPLE BE ROLEPLAYING IN EVENTS? (And, I guess, in general?)

I just want to know how much effort I'll want to be putting in to get people a good time. If people want to just hold left click and w, great- but I don't want to spend more than 20 minutes preparing for an event if that's the goal- so how do y'all feel? If there's space for it, I'd love to push some more RP-heavy stuff. I'm asking because I genuinely can't tell from the couple hours I've played this week!

I think smaller scale events with a specific audience are places you'll get a lot of RP. Main server events with pop of 70+ usually are void of anything extremely intense. 

Event server deployments are usually heavily RP based unless for ATK or MECH batt large scale shoot em up battles.

Depends on the Gamemaster and scale like Kaiser mentioned.

Deployments? Generally not. They're not thought out and people are generally given a few minutes to set them up to have "surprise" deployments now, so they're nowhere on par with the old Regimental Deployments.

Small events pertaining to a couple of people like IR can bring some small RP but nothing the bat an eye at. It's generally bare minimum and subpar. Even below IR training standards. 

Events that have been preplanned like @Zeros campaigns generally had a tied together story which revolved around a few key people. Leading to some solid interaction and RP between the community as a whole. 

Otherwise? no. Most events are filler shoot em ups with IR or an EJ at some point to negotiate or flee to log as an Event for quota. If its not that its a shoot em up encounter in Courtyard. Or your classic 20k HP BX with a shotgun breaking into the base to steal data from BCC. It is SUPER plain right now. I do believe High Staff is attempting to address the quality (and lack thereof) of RP on server by enforcing rules that have become lax over time. (See Mazen's post) and it seems surprise deployments have slown a bit. Jedi has been attempting to bring back some small things like TG clearing Temple and Jedi having interactions with Clones via comms, and comms RP is still fairly present and decent to this day, but that is bare minimum RP and is generally expected of even the newest players on the platform. 

TL;DR 
Its about 90% No 10% Yes. 

It lies in the hands of the lazy GMs to fix their standards and events, then it falls into the players hands to mold those events themselves. 

It starts from the top down. Once the top starts players will start picking it up i believe. Too many people are focusing on playing the number game for High Staff and quota rather than player enjoyment. No GM nowadays compares to your average deployment GM from 2022.

Legitimately sums it up and mystic is right too. Events are devoid of true roleplay. I think the most stable rp we've seen besides our recent imperialrp weekend(i had a lot of fun with that as tarkin) is Interrogation RP. Which is ...ironic.

Also I don't think we have an event server any more?

They do use Event Server  when we're above 100+ but i think they'd let you guys have an exception...

Absolutely no idea why I was pinged

 

But people will RP more when the RP is focused on them, so event server events is where you're gonna get most of that. During Main server events you can expect maybe one or two people to actually care about your rp while everybody else wants something to shoot or fight.

I did learn however that if you give jedi specifically important RP then they will usually be really interested no matter what kind of event

I would say there are times people put a lot of effort into RP, and I know there are certain groups of people that really enjoy it. This in all honesty can be a hard question to give a definitive answer for.

pre-planned meaning it wasnt a 5 minute gathering of EJs then bam a host of shoot em ups. It was pre announced and generated some hype.
