I would +1 this as it's a rule that on the surface is meant to make the less tech literate feel safe. But the other side of the coin if some unfunny member of our community goes to a complainer and makes a joke like this and they take it seriously then they could end up wasting liaisons, staff, and in some cases founders time by having to handle the situation because someone said "I have your IP" which to some uninformed members can be equated to certain illegal things If anything it should really just be a ban on personal doxing / Private identifiable information / Harassment, but sadly that doesn't cut it for some people. I don't really care enough to + / - 1 but I think it's pretty clear to say that this whole situation blew up more than it needed to because of unfunny jokes and sensitivity to those jokes so much so that it warranted a community wide ban...

This suggestion was denied three years ago for a very serious reason, and while three years may seem a lot, nothing about these two addons has changed from what I can tell. The ability they have to break and/or crash the server is pretty crazy. The tool would definitely be useful, but the two suggested aren't where it's at.

Name: Aaron RP Rank: SGT Suggestion: Change the rules regarding IP jokes, I’m not even 100% sure how the IP jokes even started but all I know is they became way more popular after the ban on them (Streisand effect). Yes posting IP grabbers and even ones that don’t link to the actual IP grabber site but look like it should be against the rules. But the problem with these strict rules happen when someone makes a joke using the server IP and get a warning or a ban for using a harmless IP which just connects to the main or event server. Yes I know these jokes are cringe but they shouldn’t ever be permanent ban or even ban worthy as long as it’s a joke and no one reports it and has an actual reason to feel threatened. Getting banned or warned for saying “great argument but (3 random numbers)” is just ridiculous. Posting a gif that says “I have your IP” then some random shit dancing and getting punished for it makes no sense. The only way u should be able to get banned for anything IP related is posting a real IP grabber, warning for a fake one (If continued afterwards a ban, length depending on the context), making an actual threat with a fake IP, or the obvious one, getting someone’s real IP and using it in anyway. I feel every report should be handled on a case by case basis, there should be no set in stone ban for saying wacky numbers Implementation: Change server rules Other: I’m aware you could just not make the joke, but it shouldn’t be ban worthy if it’s harmless. Being strict on this one exact kind of joke is just overkill.

+1 this a good spot. Players will pass by this spot to get to where they go anyway, so if its there they'll see it and go "OH YEAH! MY SPIN!" just like in armory. Players would probably have to go out of their way to get if its in mess hall. I don't know many people who go through there regularly. I guess it could get the room used more if it was in there, though!

I really don't think that someone saying "These numbers look familiar? 123?!" or stupid shit like that should be ban-able, nor do I think that is the intention of any member of leadership. The only instance of which I have seen this punished to a larger extent was when an individual reached out to a member of the community he had not known well at all to make such a joke. No one person is scouring every facet of this community to find people who make jokes about knowing someone's IP. With that being said, I do disagree with the current ruling. I'd much rather these instances be reported on a case-by-case basis, and then punishment be taken if need be. Even if it is a joke, have that discretion of punishment be up to the staff members involved. +1 if being done instead case by case.

This is such a sad attitude, like I personally don't want the founders telling players what they can and cannot say outside of genuinely malicious acts. Stuff like racism, homophobia and other bigoted seem to have attracted little attention or repercussions garnering the regular punishments for most other rule breaks. IP jokes seem to have taken a life of their own as if they're some huge issue which pretty obviously it is not, if a fake IP or even mention of IPs really upsets you this much maybe you just shouldn't be on the internet. We don't like redundant restrictions because they ruin fun on the server and achieve nothing so why have them enforced at all. Pointless restrictions aren't fun and the community isn't very happy to hand over the power to ban whatever jokes the founders want if they deem it "scary" enough. This isn't like harassment it's just stupid jokes I don't see why we should just be okay with people telling us what we can do when it's not harming anyone else. But you seem to have a desire to lick this boot and die on the hill that banning jokes is epic sauce because I don't find it funny. It's weird to have this harsh a punishments for even mentioning IPs in a joke, clearly the community doesn't agree. You can tell by the fact IP jokes have skyrocketed in private since the introduction of this ban, it was almost never brought up but now it's happening again and again every day. People are always joking about "funny numbers" and how they're "scared". it's just so silly, why care this much about harmless jokes. If there is genuine threat behind the post and someone is doxxing people yeah go ahead but I think most of us are yet to see that. +1, I think it's funny and banning it has only made it funnier just making it a much bigger issue when it never was one

Obviously harmless ones should not be punished at all, especially the discord gifs. I think if someone really feels threatened it should be taken seriously but people are getting banned for some of the dumbest things I have ever seen because of this 0 tolerance rule. +1

+1 i dont think i should get in any kind of trouble for joking with my battalion in discord and i send a picture of an IP joke. "good one, heres ur IP bozo" and now im banned from the server until god knows when. We understand the rule itself but the punishments dont match the crime.

I would very much be willing to get rid of the Consular class and arquitens class ships for these instead

No battalion would ever let this happen, it's like if 41st suddenly wanted to take over ARF training like no one would let that happen. Any "shield training" is gonna be inside batts probably by the HVYO+ after the tryout is done so they know how the shield operates and stuff.

Why do you need to make an IP joke tho?

You get a warning, and they said they handle case by case. You say you should be banned for posting an IP grabber, but what if someone post an actually IP? Some may not care if you know where they live, but most do. also the joke is Not funny anymore everytime I see one I just go 💀

-1 I think the way they have handled them so far are fair. If you wanna make the joke do it in a dm with your buddy or something like that. It’s not like it’s hurting anyone for being a rule in place. “OMg I cAnT poSt tHis Ip to make FuNny JokE”. Just get better content to choose from when making jokes
