Change Jedi Rank Names

Name: Rick

RP Rank: Council Member

Suggestion: Change the in game Jedi ranks to match their actual name instead of just using roman numerals. Since Temple Guards use roman numerals as their name having someone with the name of Jedi Temple Guard Padawan II III just does not look good. So instead it should be Jedi Temple Guard Padawan Candidate III.

Implementation: Change the in game ranks to match what we use on the Jedi roster.

Grand Master of the Order
Master of the Order
Overseer
Master
Elder Knight
Knight Ascendant
Knight Protectorate
Knight Errant
Knight
Padawan Disciple
Padawan Learner
Padawan Candidate
Padawan
Youngling

+1, I get why numbers were opted into but it just looks ugly ingame and is confusing to explain to people who aren't familiar with the ranks

My biggest issue might be how long these make names in game. They’re already super bloated for some people and this will make it worse. Have you thought of a shorter way to display some of these longer ones?

We could always abbreviate the "Knight" and "Padawan" to K and P respectively. e.g a new name could look like Jedi Sentinel K Ascendant Horatio

Despite me being around when this was implemented, Ive always hated arbitrary names, title and ranks. Its like navigating a minefield working out which rank is higher. For the sake off avoiding headaches and keeping it simple, I really dont want to see this in game.

Side note

Jedi Sentinel Padawan Candidate <Name> is needlessly longand after talks with conrad privately recently, He makes good points about importance of ranks and the actual value of these ranks overall.

-1 till theres actual reason to use these names. abbreviating it to K and P is just kicking the stone down the road.

That was the councils biggest concern as well, another option would to keep Padawan and Knight normal but abbreviate the sub rank so it would be Padawan L for Lerner. I know they did this before we got the roman numerals in, and this way you can still understand what rank it is other than trying to figure out the number. Also I'm open to other suggestions because right now my main concern is the numbered ranks interfering with the Temple Guard names since there are two back to back roman numerals.

I don’t think making a change like this just because one branch’s names look bad is good.

-1 personally

I also think abbreviating Padawan and Knight looks dumb. That was common back in the day because of these long ranks and branch names that’s why I originally suggested just doing Roman numerals.

A solution I could offer is suggesting an in-game rank for Temple Guard to use to where their names are just Jedi Temple Guard IV or whatever. That solves their name issues without impacting every other branch. The only side effect is you won’t know their actual rank in-game but I don’t think that’s a big deal tbh.

This ain't it to me. The Knight Or Padawan is the real lore rank we have, putting that to the side for something made up just feels sad to me almost. Marvel brought up a good point. This is trying to fix a problem for TG, at the cost of making it worse for the whole.

I like the idea of keeping additional progression for Jedi. I can't say I have a large issue with the current I, II, III. I think the reason why is similar to Conrad's point about Knight and Padawan being the lore rank. While I like having more RP regarding names in-game it feels off to me. Jedi Candidate doesn't make sense to me as they're already a Jedi and not a candidate for Knight at that rank. I don't have a solution for this issue because I'm not sure what problem the change is trying to solve. If it is just a Temple Guard issue there must be another way to represent the names. Why disrupt all Jedi unless it's a progressive change for the entire Order. Is there a way to differentiate the Padawan and Knight ranks out of game rather than in-game? To me this falls under the same thing as something like REGL in names or other things that aren't relevant to RP. Keep all in-game Padawan and Knight ranks as such, on rosters and other documents they can be I, II, or III? Again I don't have the solutions and my idea is far from perfect, but I don't know if I can support a refocus of ranks away from Padawan and Knight. -1

How exactly does it actively impact every other branch? This suggestion was not made blind to this issue and was indeed factored in and this suggestion was brought up to the respective Branch Masters beforehand who all agreed that this change is more in benefit to our current structure. I do not see the purpose in simply saying "oh there's no point because it is just gonna make long names and be an inconvenience", this system worked perfectly for months before the new roster system and whenever somebody had a long name they removed all the baggage from their name such as the whole "CG Inferno-06 blah blah blah". The issue definitely never came from the ranks in their name

+1 can we just do Candidate and Errant instead of PADAWAN Candidate and KNIGHT Errant? Or is that too sacrilegious.

+1 name bloat is always gonna exist in one way or another whether it's across Jedi or other factions. we shouldn't be using an excuse of "name too long" to subvert a potential to broaden and deepen rp by having these names on display. whilst sub ranks are not canon per se, it will allow synergy to stand out from other servers in a new way.
