Give 501st HVO Mortar's

Name: Nexus

RP Rank: BCMD

Suggestion: Currently the 501st does not have any explosive ordinance representation outside of controlling the training for EOD, the defusal kit, and HVO (which every battalion gets). This is why I am requesting that the 501st HVO regiment receives mortars, per the lore, so that they can be a stronger example as to how 501st operates with heavy ordinance during offensive scenarios. On top of this giving 501st mortars will provide the battalion with new ways to demonstrate effective ways to use explosive ordinance, as well as giving an Attack Battalion a strong offensive tool to aid in RP scenarios. For example; arty barrages moving into a frontal assault, or suppressive barrage whilst the ATK REG pushes an objective. We will sacrifice one HVO slot, and want to work with 104th Dire Squad Lead and XO in creating a tryout document for 501st HVO to include the mortars so that they keep their specialization but 501st gets lore equipment.

Implementation: Job / Whitelist change

Lore: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Mortar

Workshop content if applicable:
(If no workshop content, suggest a developer or put "Require Development")

If you are asking to add or change a job, fill out the following if not, leave it out.

Add or Change: Change
(Any job modification requires all this information)

Job: Job

Slots: 4 (5 originally but we will sacrifice a slot for mortars)

Description: Add mortar and rangefinder to the HVO whitelist

Model: N/A
(Provide the model string if on server Ex. models/synergy_roleplay/trooper.mdl (Get this from the Q menu)

Weapons: mortar_constructor, mortar_range_finder
(If you want a modfication to a weapon/saber you must put the weapon string in the suggestion. Ex. tfa_e5 (Get this from the Q menu))

I am very torn here. As BCMD and the guy who Hounded the hell out of the DEV team for this to be Dire Squad's Specialization. I don't want to let them get mortars. However as a Player and enjoyer of this community I would like to see this happen. It opens up a lot of inter-battalion relationship building.

I Do not want to lose that which we fought so hard for like we did Negotiations and Hostage rescue. Dire Squad still is the best the sub unit. It was my home for 8 months. So if this goes through I want it to be a joint thing based from Dire squad.

That means you Future leadership! "Well you see in Lore 501st..." NO! currently in lore a homeless girl just touches Anakin's lightsaber and is now somehow stronger then him. So shut up about lore! (sequels are shit sue me.) Mortars are Dire Squad's Specialization! Leave it be and don't take it from them!

I rescind my vote on this because again I am still heavily on the fence about it.... I do want to help 501st but perhaps a better alternative would be Landmines?

Idk broski why not just make one of your TC characters or something else have a single mortar? Rather than all your HVOs. I would just really hate to see this take away from 104th. The reason I say that is bc in the battle of umbara I think TC used Mortars. EOD is explosive ordinance disposal wouldn’t really mean you got mortars

I am in middle now because you would take away from DS since that's only thing unique to them but I would be ok if only one Character had it not all HVOs. Because if you had it should go to all the HVOs in all the battalions so they all match

Why would all battalions get it when 501st is the only battalion in lore who had them, we are not taking them away from DS, ever. and if this gets accepted we will work very close with the 104th and the reason for giving it to HVO is because we want it limited to 501st and a limited amount, no other battalion should get this added to their HVOs since there is no lore to back it up for anyone else then 501st, and since Dire Squad isnt lore, it makes sense for them to also have it without it affecting either 501st or 104th

Dawg Lore Snore, mortars are one of those pieces of equipment that every clone legion would have some of. I don’t want everyone in the server to have mortars at all but to use lore as argument as to why you should have it over others is silly. Just bc it’s shown being used by 501st does not mean only they have them 😂

We are limiting it to 4 HVO slots because we want something to stand out with, as currently, the 501st has nothing. We are also motivating it with a lore stand point of view

-1 I support it if you guys throw it on just one character not all your hvos even if you sacrifice 1 character.

I get that, and I trust yall will be respectful to 104th if this gets accepted.

But remember you guys are 501st you already stand out to anyone that plays GMOD RP, you’ll never go thru a recruiting crisis bc you’re “not unique enough” you have everything anyone could want on the server besides cloaks

The reason for changing my vote is not to be morbid but if all your HVOs can have it then it gets to a point where if 104th it’s a rough spot with Dire Squad then 501st could have more people on server with mortars until fixed

this is the logic I wanted to avoid bro by thinking like this. In lore 212th and 501st used AT-TE's does that mean your battalions should have them too? There needs to be a better reason my guy. I have to change my opinion at this point. I'm sorry I still think you should get something special for HVO and I will help you and Nexus brainstorm Ideas. -1 Dire Squad's whole IDENTITY is mortars. Juggernaut fought tooth and nail to have this implemented within the server. Sometimes, just because it's lore doesn't mean you HAVE to have it, in this case when it comes to a lore squad that BARELY exists in cannon. Now if you want to use them after being trained and dire squad ALLOWS you to use them then that's a whole different suggestion and or idea. But this? No

I got a feeling that most of these negative votes are from 104th members... Just a hunch

Anyway I would like to agree with this comment right here. Dogma would make the most sense here since he is the HVO of TC.

I think that giving all the HVOs in the battalion the mortar simply does not make sense. I understand ever since the drop pods with HP was added the amount of EOD rp has decreased but I'm sure discussing with the rest of 501st in a meeting or putting up a inner battalion suggestion for the entire 501st to hear would get better feedback as well as come up with some better alternatives.

I'm going to have to -1 the current suggestion. If it changes to what I said above I would gladly +1.

I made it go to all HVOs as a compromise because giving it to a certain lore character would cause too much clash between TC leadership and Dire Squad. I also don't want another battalion determining who gets Hardcase for example, just because he has a mortar. If its given to HVO we both will have a lot more ground to stand on, and its only four slots that will be monitored heavily.

I understand where you're coming from but as I mentioned earlier, I do not want 104th to have a say in who gets a lore character in 501st solely based off the fact that it has a mortar. If that were to be the case I would only allow 501st to maintain the training that Dogma would get. That excludes what I'm trying to do here, which is include 104th Dire Squad in the process while giving the ATK battalion an offensive tool to use.

That makes absolutely no sense after our discussion. We clearly stated that it was both for lore and rp purposes in regard to how 501st operates. So why is that argument not valid?? Secondly, mortars ARE special and directly relate to regiments that specialize in heavy ordinance. MY reasoning is what we discussed AND what is found in this post and my replies.

501st main focus is to be in the front / attack together whit 212th and 241st how would sitting back whit a mortar help that

also its pretty much the only thing 104th has (yes they have tanks but have the events i see they are lucky if the can get 1 atte at most )

Nexus, I got a lot of love and respect for you, but mortars are not offensive equipment and it's annoys me you are trying to say they are. They are a support gear, used to assist and suppress, not actively engage the enemy. What supports this is their alternative shells such as smoke and they are stationary. No one in their right mind is going to charge the enemy, stop, deploy the mortar, fire it and then pick up and repeat. It wastes effort and time.

104th is not just a mechanized battalion, but a support battalion. We actively use our tanks as mobile cover for infantry. It's not just something for Dire Squad, which Jugg fought tooth and nail for, but it helps support the fact 104th is a support battalion.

Like 104th has tanks, (Rarely given in deployments now) Wolfpack who can do boarding (212th priority) rarely done, Dire Has mortars only thats it , we have nothing else unique to us and as stated by @ClipperTheHVY Mortars are more of a support equipment than offensive, if its offence that is looked for perhaps  like a deployable turret or something for the front lines  Would be better to look for

This is a massive -1 in every regard

You are apart of the 501st, the battalion with the most lore, named characters and 3 characters that are some of the most popular in the entire series. Every single battalion used mortars, artillery, AT-TE, AT-RTs and so on so saying its "apart of the lore" is a moot point. Instead of putting everything in your battalion have you considered working with the 104th and using their mortars during a push and coordinate with them? This just seems like the 501st wants a little bit of everything instead of allowing the battalions that have unique items to keep said unique items.

Again if you say "lore reasons" 241st isn't real, dire squad isn't real and so are numerous other things.

Would you be upset if the 104th asked to have an EOD sub unit to handle explosives and say they want to work alongside the 501st?

This is a big "stay in your lane" moment and pushing for it only hurts the server overall when the 41st has been asking for numerous things to make them unique and has been denied on multiple occasions.

I don't know why everyone gets so hung up on the lore point, like ive already stated, the lore aspect is just one of the motivations.
The biggest motivation is still, 501st has nothing. So what if we have the most lore characters. Currently the top 3 battalions on the server are 104th, 212th and 501st.
For the people in 501st, having the most lore characters means nothing, we have nothing that makes us stand out or that we can use.
If the 104th wants to utilize tanks (which I btw give you every single event and deployment I host) Start enforicing the hierchy  instead of saying you rarley get to use it

The mentality that "it's unique to (insert battalion here)" is honestly such a bad point in every aspect.
What does it matter if its unique, we've stated numerous times that it will be given to 4 HVO slots (we are getting rid of one aswell) and that we are gonna work closeley with the 104th on the trainings and requiremtents.

To tell us to "stay in your lane" is just weird, this is a video game, none of us are entitled to anything, and if the 501st had something "unique" we would gladly support another battalions suggestion on recieving said item.

There is no reason why 104th would lose this, as this and NEG is 2 different things, one is a paper product the other one is an actual item. And to answer your question, No we would not be upset if the 104th wanted to deal with EOD alongside 501st, but that also is an irrelevant argument since that revolves around " battalion Specializations" and not an item that will not get removed from 1 battalion just because it gets added to another.

Honestly is Dire Squad's whole identity Mortars? That's what it seems like rn, and if it is then that's more so an issue of the squad itself not this suggestion. There are ALOT of Squads on this server that all want a unique thing for their "Identity" but more often than not is that really fixing anything? If the worry is that high that Dire Squad will seemingly phase out or som due to the lack of sole propriety over mortars, then that seems like a bigger issue to me (That's not to say that giving all of 501st HVYO mortars ain't a bit greddy)

The mentality that "it's unique to (insert battalion here)" is honestly such a bad point in every aspect.

as I said when we talked yesterday Yeah You and Nexus are VA's and you TWO are willing to protect the sovereignty of Dire Squad being the mortar guys. However also Like I said yesterday The Lore argument will in the future come back to Haunt this decision. Someone somewhere down the Road when we are gone or no longer in power will destroy everything we have built with that "Lore" Excuse and use this entire discussion as fuel for it as well.  I want to keep it difficult for people like that as long as possible.

Not everyone will work with us in the future like you and Nexus want to. Not everyone will be as respectful of the Fight I and others OF 104th had put up to get the mortars on the server to begin with.

You're in the 501st, the battalion and the lore associated with it is what makes it special. If you feel like the lore characters do nothing then you're not roleplaying or utilizing them properly and just seeing them "insert place holder here"

The lore motivation again is pointless, in lore everyone used droid poppers should we give it to the HVOs of 501st too since you say the 501st has nothing?

If we aren't entitled to anything then you aren't entitled to the mortars for the sake of "we have nothing to make us unique" when you are THE 5 0 1 ST L E G I O N, the most well known and sought out battalion on every gmod server. Go to any other server and its almost always the biggest battalion because people think its cool to be in it.

If you feel like the 501st has nothing special then instead of taking the what seems to be the lazy and easy way to correct it (which no one will join 501st just because you might have a chance at mortars) why not do something with Torrent Company? Why not add the Carnivore Battalion then and flesh that out as a more specalized mechanized side to help the 104st and 41st? The LORE for them is very little but you can expand on it like with dire squad and find something unique to make them stand out.

I don't think this is about mortars I think its more about you wanting to flesh out the 501st but not in the way someone should. Going to the drawing board and as a veteran admin you know Xaze is big on standing out so why not talk to your battalion, look at the lore and what's not on the server and add that to the 501st instead? Carnivore Battalion could make turrets the E-WEB or something similar, maybe sticky grenades or even having thermal detonators for torrent company or something.

There is a lot to work with but trying to take away something to the 501st when they only have 2 unique things is honestly insulting to them. All they get are tanks and mortars for a small sub unit. When tick is high the tanks are taken away making them another generic attack battalion with none of the specialized stuff or priority for it.

If you wonder why the 104th is so adamant about this its because those 2 things is the only thing setting them apart from the other battalions and to have one taken away to make another battalion that shouldn't be seen as "boring" or "having nothing" seem more appealing is a slap to their face.

I mean it does appear to be an issue if the possible sharing is resulting in this much discourse. The belief that the sharing of mortars results in the death of it seems extremely pessimistic and an extreme overreaction. Server Leadership knows that this all originated from the 104th, if any issues were to arise over disputes of ownership, then it makes sense for it to fall back onto you guys. You're acting like this is a removal of Dire Squad as a core when mortars shouldn't be the squad's identity. You mention the legacy the squad holds so why not make that its identity? People will be drawn to it within your batt regardless of what they have due to either the environment it creates or the people within it. That's how it goes for almost every squad on the server, most have nothing or little to their identity, yet people still want to join them. People draw people in.

The 104th has an entire squad of Jetpack users with every specialization that exists, no other battalion on the server has that, You guys have stuff that makes you unique, and 104th will never lose their mortars, like ive stated, the Negotiations and Hostage rescue are not in the same catagory as weapons, and both me and nexus as VA's knows that it will never get removed from the 104th

You gotta remember that Negotiations and Hostage Rescue are "specializations" that "only one battalion" can be in charge of. If EOD got moved to for example 212th, 501st would lose it, but this is regarding a weapon, and never in my almost 8 years of synergy, has  a weapon been removed from a subunit/battalion because another battalion has recieved said weapons. Like I said yesterday, 104th does NOT risk losing this in any way shape or form, with or without me and nexus

7 people in it and the only bonus is the jetpack and one only 1 get an ARC kit, warthog went without a jetpack forever, boost doesn't get a rocket launcher even though hes a HVO, comet is just a normal  trooper with a jetpack, they don't have prio for hostage/negotiations, no prio for boarding, no prio for EOD, no prio for anything. They are second picked for everything and forgotten about majority of the time and they have to sit back watching others who have the prio for these things. 104th has 2 things that makes it stand out, mortars and tanks thats it. You can go join RANCOR and get the same equipment as wolfpack and much more. Go ask any new person why they joined the 104th, majority of the answers will say wolfpack and tanks thats it. No one joins for dire squad, they don't know about it until its brought up by someone in dire squad. When I was playing on the server I didn't care at all about dire squad because they had nothing to set them apart, the only reason people like wolfpack is because jetpacks are broken in a game like garry's mod.

Then why is there a big issue to give 501st 4 if they arent good? It really just feels like you guys don't want anyone else to have this, just for the sake of you having it to yourself, which is fine, but don't label it as anything else then.

You know this is a roleplay server right, maybe people just like to roleplay as a mortar man and feel like they are helping their brothers. Things can be adjusted which Jug has pushed hard to get things improved, getting them took a year making them good will probably take another 1 or 2.

501st main focus is to be in the front / attack together whit 212th and 241st how would sitting back whit a mortar help that

also its pretty much the only thing 104th has (yes they have tanks but have the events i see they are lucky if the can get 1 atte at most )

All of the battalions listed are in the ATTACK REGIMENT. That makes no sense.

Yes and that is what the suggestion portion is for, do you think Xaze sat down with Jug to get dire squad made? No he had to work hard and get support for it.

Dude I love you a lot and I really hate to pull this card. But as a person who has studied military history and several battles and wars, mortars are an offensive tool. Yes, suppression is a part of that but modern military doctrine (at least in the 20th century) has shown that mortars and arty are used as a backbone to infantry assaults. You can see several films and shows that focus on a battle or war use mortars in this capacity during an assault on a bunker, city or town, or even another battalion.

That is not the reason why I'm fighting for this, the 501st focuses on offensive maneuvers and mortars would significantly aid in that interaction along with RP.

This is a hot take and might get taken down because someone can see it as mean or whatever but with you pushing for this when someone else put the work in to get this item added to the server is showing me you don't want to put the time/effort to make the 501st more unique and want to piggy back off someone that the high staff got tired of hearing him talk about it every single time the server suggestions were open. When it was denied numerous times and even when it was accepted and took a long time to be implemented Jug constantly asked every time there was an update "are we getting mortars?" and when he was told no he raised hell about it.

If you really want to do something and work with the 104th make carnivore battalion a reality, who specializes in mechanized equipment that can assist the 104th during events. Jug will tell you himself he is lucky to have 1 supp helping with the tanks during an event and will gladly allow other people who are tank trained to operate vehicles and take turns.

This is nothing that 104th would lose because of this.

The entirety of dire squad gets a mortar, so that's 10 DS to 4 501st.

I am aware but I am thinking of every possible scenario and one where Dire Squad goes thru a rough patch is all, it’s unlikely but possible and I think if there’s a way to avoid that possibility we should explore that option

I feel like this is going in one ear and out the other at this point, its not about losing the mortars its about the fact that dire squad and Jug fought so hard for a unique item that only they can have compared to others. 241st would be just as upset if every battalion's HVO got droid poppers, the battalion itself wouldn't lose it but something entirely unique would be watered down and make them feel like they're not as special.

This is playing with fire, if 501st gets the mortars what will stop the 212th from saying the same exact thing along with the 241st? The standard has already been set with 501st if it does happen and it will turn into an all or nothing, hurting 1 battalion at the small gain of 3 others. You can't sit here and tell me that 212th and 241st in the future wouldn't want mortars too if the justification is "I am an attack battalion"
