They used the force to open it and it corrupted their minds. The Holocron had a Sith curse on it which infected both of their minds. They landed on the outskirts of the temple and moved into the temple to get more holocrons as the spirit wished. The Jedi picked up on the odd behavior and stopped them. They took the Jedi to their ship and showed the ruin where it when wrong. The 2 corrupted Jedi attacked and fled to the temple where they fought some more. The padawan was taken down and brought to the brig where the Jedi used force to fight the spirit and the knight when he talked with the Jedi in the council chambers to have peace where he surrendered. The Spirt talked to the Jedi and said he will destroy the Jedi order.
