As many of you are aware, a newly developed game by FacePunch called S&Box is quickly being built up, and more and more features are added daily; I am thrilled to say that @Xaze, @Jayarr, and I all have access to the game. S&Box has recently become more stable, and we've been testing the engine and all of its features & components in the background. However, we want to ask the community and the players what they want to see from the upcoming game. I want to note that this is a brand new game coded in a different language that's structured very differently;

We turn to you guys for ideas and what you want to see from this game. This is not a discussion post to argue or to post memes! We'd love to hear some of your inspiring ideas to help get us started, keep in mind this is based of ideas revolving an RP gamemode, like inventory systems or stuff you guys like from other games that we can try to recreate!

The main thing I want is some carry over of our weapons or something else instead of weapons, because I'll assume with S&Box releasing the gmod server will die and we will lose our stuff. So some carry over would be very pog!

Seeing a hud system that allows players within their battalions that functions as a basic squad tracker and radar. Tactical pings would be fucking crazy. 

A functioning mortar and turret system would be the dream

I really want Light Saber combat to be much better. More like it is in BF2. This is honestly the biggest complaint with our GMOD limitations of things that are nothing like real star wars

Better animations surrounding combat (leaning, scope adjustments, attachment changing) and general movement, swep type things. Additionally, I would love to see some NPC like additions like in regular multiplayer games, with things they do, mini-interactions, working on ships, etc.

I am most excited for the sheer creativity of the s&box / gmod community, as I know they are some of the most passionate modders in any gaming community to date.

You know what would be awesome if we end up doing star wars still? More in depth ship fixing. Like, you have to open up a panel and poke around or tighten a bolt to actually repair a ship.

Lightsaber combat fucking sucks unless you've got some sort of speed boost as everyone can just Bhop away while the Jedi is malding. If something more intresting could be done, i'd love to see it. I'd love just more RP oppertunities like Mavelle said as well

I would love to see us lean away from rolling in RP to actually having it take some bit of skill, Like Mavelle said, poking around a bomb physically or a ship would be much cooler than /me on a prop.

As of right now, we are not basing the base gamemode on starwarsRP this is because we want to make a modular system that can take in any other gamemode. so for now we are focusing on the RP base mechanics of the gamemode not just starwarsRP

So- sorry to keep asking questions, but is it going to be more sci-fi oriented, modular-wise, or just general RP? Because I can think of a million futuristic machine things, or anything like that, but the setting almost exclusively informs the content, ESPECIALLY for RP

Let’s see some good movement functionality / animations. 
 

Ex running into a slide, go prone to shoot or roll onto your back from prone to shoot the other way. The ability to drag dead team members so medical devices can be done behind safety, and most of all the ability to lean left and right to look / shoot around corners.

Also Hand to hand combat animations such as assassinations in Battlefield. Stealth is extremely useless in most cases on the server right now and that could make it amazing

1. More variety. With a new game and an up-to-date engine please give us a bigger variety of stuff to put on to customize our clones and BH etc. 

2. Environment. Now that you guys have many more tools at your disposal and will have more as the game progresses, a great map is something that I think Synergy needs to be able to attract more players and have a map that can be on par with maps that other servers will have. Like why not have fun and really push and see what the new game can do and add more places to explore and do RP in. 

3. Stability. I think everyone in synergy can agree that we love new features that are brought to the server but the features that are given are sometimes overshadowed by stability issues/incomplete server features. We'd love to see features that work as well as possible. (considering its a new game and there will be bugs that aren't fixable by synergy devs) 

 

Personal ideas: Me as a CG id love to see more city/town areas and maybe a place for us CG to go and RP with civilians and stuff. Something like the nar shadaa map. Just some place we can use our pilots to do military searches with spotlights and places where we can raid buildings and a very small outpost where CG can be stationed and not limited to a base.

I'd like to see more variety in animations. Things are really bland when everyone has the same walk, run, shoot, aim, etc animations. Allowing some variety in how people stand/move/shoot would be a huge QoL improvement.

 

I also think more nonstandard weaponry would be good. Right now everything is very restricted by job/class/lore. Allowing the job/class nonspecific weapons to be more outrageous would make things a lot more fun.

 

Side note, thank you for making this type of thread. I appreciate the increase in communication.

The Dead Space UI. Clean, sleek, un invasive yet still heavily integrated, just everything you want in a UIspacer.png

Another great example is the Arkham franchises UI. From sound design, to simplicity, to animations, and everything about it, just *chefs kiss*.

i was thinking this or something along the lines of a Destiny type feel
Clearly more oriented towards whatever theyre hosting

Both Seem Interesting, and would Both probably be up for debate at a future date. But what I'd like to see if I ever do return is better Performance enhancements, that would prevent people from Rubber Banding, lagging out, Server Lag Outs, and people who are banned spamming the retry button and spamming the Chat with "[User Has Joined The Game}" As an example.

Destiny skill tree is cool but I do not want armor customization like destiny.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Anything to move away from /me orientated RP to more things like the current TECH addon we have and that EOD addon we had a while back. Where you actually have to *do* the actions rather than type them. Little addons/ui for all the different things we can do would make the server much more interactive. TECH/EOD, Repairing vehicles, hell even MED RP. A more immersive experience when doing things would be awesome.

1. Firefights become more intense. This can be accomplished by giving bullets impact weight, (big ol heavy SMACKS and whizzes like in Battle front 2), and some sort of slight suppression effect. Think hell let loose but scaled WAY back. Slight grey filter, maybe a little zoom and shake, etc. 

2. Combat situations to require a little more thinking than just variations of “Run at them”. Stealth, suppression, and more varied terrain to spice things up. 

3. Some sort of a HUD with a radar that allows us to ping points of interest or enemy positions for a team or battalion or something 

4. Systems to passively interact with based on specialization. For example, pilots/engineers can go randomized nodes on base to repair them. Medics have an interactive medical menu. EOD and TECH become specializations with their own menus/add ons. Etc.

5. Inventories and UI as stated in other comments

6. Weapon customization. Longer barrels, shorter barrels, modified fire rate at the cost of damage, optics, etc.

7. More ways to spend credits OUTSIDE OF gambling. Consumables, Limited use items, status effect items, etc. This ties into my next point

8. The biggest one on the list. Systems that promote passive rp. While it is 100% up to the players to passive rp. Providing loose frameworks that incentivize working through situations and talking to people instead of “instantly execute bounty hunter” or “come on base, rdm, steal laat i spawned for myself” would go a long way to fixing the lack of RP in the community. For example: Systems that allow BHs to be vendors. Systems that allow us to give an actual task to a bh, or systems that punish them for fucking up and starting a massive firefight on base.

The preservation of existing groups even if some of the less popular ones might take a numbers hit from the transition. A lot of people are pretty attached to their battalions and it'd be a shame if they moved over only to realize [x] group has been removed.

Well luckily I’m assuming when S&Box releases it’ll be huge, it also means we can increase player cap since I’m assuming the server will be able to use more then one core, so I doubt theyd remove a battalion

Here's something for both Maxwell and Jayarr as well I have not had the time nor energy to kick my feet off with Source 2 mapping:
  
Recompile our current map into S&Box and see what can be adjusted from there.    I'm aware this is going to take some work just to get everything converted and with the new rules that Source 2 has with maps.  

I don't have a clear understanding of the limits between Source 1 and Source 2,  but if I recall Source 2 is 64-bit based now.

From a development prospective this wouldn't and shouldn't be done. Source 1 and Source 2 really aren't similiar. You can accomplish this, but the map would be extremely unoptimized... and if I'm being honest it would probably just be faster to make a new map.

What I’ve seen for a while now is a lot of like really detailed maps being made by people, I feel like we should have a map made to start off with and build off of, but I think content wise, you keep the same mechanics in and such, but you can add detail, like for example Ima pull straight from galactic contention in Squad,

Have a nice new HUD, New scopes and weapon designs, better models of course, Night vision if possible and stuff like that would be nice and I think if we look back in suggestions adding stuff that was previously denied due to the limitations of GMod and Source 1 engine and also limitations in mapping when it comes to Hammer should be taken into consideration when working for a new server on S&Box cause it’ll allow us a big opportunity to bring in a hell of a lot new players with one the amount of old people who played GMod are going to most likely hop on the game, 2. Simply people coming from word of mouth experiences from other people talking about the game or sharing it and I have no doubt it’ll be a top selling game or trending game on steam so that’ll allow us to bring in new players, so somethings that we wished we had in the past from our previous suggestions would be a good place to start of course, you’ll have to do a little digging, but it’s a lot easier than thinking of stuff on the spot.

personally I would like a few more passive RP things to do while on downtime, like I saw mentioned repairing stuff, actually interactions with NPCs if possible, also if possible to put the base on a map where it’s not so much base and then the rest of the map, but a base kind of integrated into a town or city so it kind of all meshes in together not just having a base in a semi secluded area. But in general have small things that make a big difference in what we have to do around the base, like literally being able to clean or cook or anything like that in cantina or weapons maintenance, Generator maintenance, general equipment maintenance, modifying vehicles through a mechanic type NPC such and such small things like that make a difference.

now personally I haven’t looked into the game much map wise but of course pushing to get a good map and details and stuff built into the map to make it better and more interactive and since I love day and night cycles that too, but it’s also a matter of taking a look at what can be done first with the game.
 

also if anything you could try to push the server to be a Star Wars type CityRP/DarkRP, but with that same Star WarsRP feel, where you can choose what you want to be like now so BH, Clone, Jedi, Naval, shit even a civilian if people wanted to be one, could just integrate that with BH, but then again a civilian isn’t always going to be a BH, but having a variety of jobs and such.
