Event Rating Change

Suggestion: Change the 'event rating' system in the forums to split them into two categories, one for story-based events which are longer, planned and intended to have a strong story, and another for spontaneous shoot 'em ups.

Why should we implement this: Currently, according to the rating system, the best an event really can do is a 5/10. This means there is not very much depth for rating a shoot 'em up, for example a fantastic shoot 'em up would be a 5, whereas an average shoot 'em up would be rated a 4, realistically. Splitting these two rating systems allow people to be more critical and in depth of shoot 'em ups, and makes a 5/10 a lot better of a score.

How will this improve the Forums: I don't know if this will necessarily improve the forums but I think there's a pretty strong case for it improving the event team's morale and encouraging better shoot 'em ups where possible.

And people flame me because I don't leave ratings, ratings are arbitrary and don't actually tell the GM anything other then just a means to pat themselves on the back for high number, or feel sad for low number. However I don't know if this is really the place to do this. You might just get pointed in the direction of the GMM+ team. @Bacta@Mavelle@Mitchell and @Daytona211for fun.

I do agree, the current rating system just doesn't work, and its why I abstain from it. I feel like it should definitely be reevaluated because people just do not use it the way it should be. However I don't really know what that should be. I don't like rating things, i like actual feedback, so i'm not really the person to ask.

While this isn't the correct place to put this, Ill leave it up for others to give feedback on this topic.

As it currently stands, I believe that you are a bit confused on our rating scale, a 5/10 is an "average shoot-em up" or overall just an average event that doesn't have a whole lot to it besides just spawning in some droids for people to shoot with nothing special about it.
You can rate it higher as a shoot-em up based off of any RP they might have, how well things were spawned and balanced, and many other things that can help contribute to the event quality. Same goes in the opposite direction too, if you think the spawning wasn't very good you can give it a lower rating.

We use a standard shootem up as 5 because its meant to be the average standard event someone can do that doesn't involve RP really. As this is an RP server, for you to get a higher rating you should involve RP into the event along with the combat.

This isn't really a flaw or an oversight, more of a built in way to encourage people to include some RP into their events.

If you have any questions, feel free to direct them my way.

@Sock Monkey thinks the rating scale is lame
The 1-10 system was developed by the team at the time out of necessity to be able to map common opinions to scores. Scores make it easy to make an estimation of the communities opinions on an event.
Someone can write "this event needed x,y,z" but unless it's a really negative post it's hard to get an overall opinion , and be able to easily communicate that on a common scale.

The scale was developed based on multiple aspects that are common opinions from all synergy players. The aspect of splitting it up isn't ideal to me as it makes it more complicated for players who already usually dislike rating events. But i'd be open to rewording the scale to take into account current player opinions but I think RP should play an important role in the scale since that is what makes our server different from every other server. left clicking with your friends can happen anywhere on Garrys mod but interacting and having a story develop is something that can only happen in certain environments one we aim to cultivate, so long as we can still have sufficient entertainment happening at most times.

This is 100% an alternative I'd considered and would also be open to, if you felt that would be a better implementation, and due to your reasoning I totally agree that it's a good alternative.

+1 I think it should be seperated. Yes we want to encourage rp filled events but honestly not every event you will run is going to be baller since most of the time it takes a serious amount of time to prepare a unique and well planned event. I think if you made a seperate rating scale it would also boost morale in the team as getting a good rating feels phenomenal and is like a dopamine rush which just provides incentive to continue making higher quality events. Getting a 7 for doing a well thought shoot em up that took over an hour of time to conduct doesn't really feel rewarding. If you reward people more for doing good, you will get better quality events overall.
