[CW] Star Wars Mortar

Black

Recommended Posts

Name: Black

RP Rank: BCMD | Senator

Suggestion: Add the Star Wars Mortar to the server

Implementation: Add the Star Wars mortar as a placeable weapon. The implementation is either that we add it to Engineer/Pilot jobs, or as something that gets spawned in for RP purposes. Open for suggestions on this one

Lore:

Workshop content if applicable: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2502753281&searchtext=LFS+Star+Wars
(If no workshop content, suggest a developer or put "Require Development")

If you are asking to add or change a job, fill out the following

Add or Change:
(Any job modification requires all this information)

Job:

Slots:

Description:

Model:
(Provide the model string if on server Ex. models/player/synergy/cblake/ls_squad/ls_trp/lstrp.mdl (Get this from the Q menu)

Weapons:
(If you want a modfication to a weapon/saber you must put the weapon string in the suggestion. Ex. tfa_e5 (Get this from the Q menu))

Other: Will edit the suggestion based off what people want it, spawnable by staff or job equipment for certain classes.

It also includes a rangefinder that shows you where the target is, so you can give coordinates to the mortar trooper. The file size is 7MB The closest u can go with it is 800 miles so it would be kind of a artillery from base to aurek for example.

+1. But I don't agree with giving it to Support classes seeming they got a lot of stuff already.

I would say give it to heavies, but this Mortar actually requires teamwork and coordination so there would have to be a training for it.

+1. Giving it to heavies would mean they would get the upgrade that the founders have been looking for.
Also I can't wait to see the recreated battle of 501st vs 212th ;)

Agreed that it would require a training to be received for it. I would be down to create one myself possibly with anyone who wishes to help. Maybe 212th and 501st could host it since they were seen using these in lore?

the uhh... the range isnt 800 miles... that would be Mils, a unit of measurement for the angle of the mortar. The range for the mortar is 550 meters according to this table: bvLKYFo.png

+1 otherwise.. Although i do believe it should be a battalion specific thing because fuck battalion generalization. Would be cool to see DU actually have a mortar they can go full power on since the AV-7 just isnt usable without measured angles for the gun.

+1, do not give it to fucking support. They have everything the server has to offer and still only get members for their model

Just give it to heavy, it actually gives it something to do

I think it makes a lot of sense for ARF to get this. ARF Troopers would definitely have been the ones tasked with rangefinding. Just give the rocket launchers to the Heavy classes once Support get the mortar and I think it'll be very balanced with Heavy Troopers using their Z6 and Rockets to push up and clear buildings while ARF lay back with their mortars and snipers and engage the enemy at range.

+1 But please don't give it to SUP. Give it to the HVY branches. Heavies could enjoy the draw of this new toy a bit more than other classes I feel. Make a formal training for heavies revolving around this (nothing over the top, but a good crash course on the use). Have them use other branches as point and hit coordinators such as encouraging ARF to "mark" targets for bombing. If a GM would like for an event not to make use of long range ordinance (similar to how some ask not to use jetpacks), just ask troopers not to or put an invisible overlay over the sky.

it would most likely be the same shit like the vehicles where all of this regiment or that regiment have it anyways

+1 I think it would be awesome to have if it works the either two things that it could be is like in the Heavy kit or just a spawn in like you do the RP to build it and it gets spawned in

So this definitely doesn’t require a server wide training with rules and documents if it was implemented. It shouldn’t even be placed into the hands of a singular group on the server and should be regulated within each battalion whether they decided to have an actual intensive training for it or not.

Support should not receive this. They are pilots and engineers not heavy weapons specialists. However I don’t believe this should go to the heavy class either. I personally believe that this should take the place of the RPS-6 in all ARF loadouts and the RPS-6 should be given to the heavy classes. ARF troopers when not scouting ahead are usually back behind at a distance or up high where they could snipe. This would also put them in the perfect position to operate a mortar.

The last thing we need is a 20 page google document telling someone how to operate a mortar. People are gonna end up friendly firing with it either way. Also screw you Black cause I was finna throw this up myself.

I agree with Marvel and Foxey, Giving the Mortar Tubes to ARF would make a lot more sense than Heavies. Trade out ARF’s RPS-6 for the mortar, and give Heavies the RPS-6. It makes ARF’s more appealing, desirable and could improve day to day roleplay for an ARF trooper.

+1 I was gonna make a suggestion for this, but couldn't find a good mortar addon, I think this should either be given to Heavies, or given to a battalion that doesn't have a specialty item.

I played around with this in singleplayer, and it works surprisingly well.

There are a few things I want to give input on:

1) The mortar system is fairly robust and easily deployable. IMO the damage values could be tweaked to do slightly more damage, and the damage radius could be upped as well. Any HE mortar shell is more than enough to kill a target within a 5~ meter radius, although this is not the case with the default mortar config in the mod. Overall, the rangefinder in the mod works flawlessly paired with the mortar tube and range card and it's pretty enjoyable.

2) I don't think every ARF or Heavy trooper should have access to it. The system is pretty robust as mentioned so giving it to every Heavy or ARF trooper would be overkill. This is one of those things where you either need to give it to a select group in one battalion or spawn it in for events only (similar to the AV-7).

3) I don't understand the people saying not to add a training. I understand training can be tedious but you are literally giving someone a tube that shoots explosive shells and asking for them to not be trained. What could go wrong?

Edit: I forgot to add a +1. I like the idea, we just need to think about the right way to implement it

+1, Give this to ARF and for the love of god don't add more document RP or restrict it to one battalion. Leave the training up to BCMD discretion, I'm sure they can do the right thing. Marvel's plan of sending the RPS-6 to Heavies and having this in the ARF kit makes the most sense logistically.
